Belle Island Fish Interactives

Belle Island
Detroit, Michigan, 2026

Tactile Graphics on the Riverside

The Great Lakes Sturgeon had nearly been wiped out by overfishing, industrial pollution, competition with invasive species, and the damming of the rivers the fish have always returned to for spawning. Efforts by tribal groups and the Michigan DNR have been successful in bringing the species back from the brink, but not many people are familiar with the "dinosaur fish," or its story.

We worked closely with DNR to develop unique signage designed to raise awareness along the Detroit River, where the sturgeon comeback is starting to be noticed by anglers. Our signs include touchable elements and are fabricated to withstand the sometimes harsh climate of the Belle Isle shore.
